Answers to the most common questions about installing, using, and managing Silent Guard.
Silent Guard is a Windows computer program that quietly watches your webcam for motion. When it detects movement, it records a short video clip and uploads it to your secure Silent Guard server so you can review it later.
There are two main ways to download your recordings:
If you want to keep a recording for longer than the server retention period, download it and save it on your own device or backup drive.
By default, Silent Guard is configured to automatically remove older clips after about 90 days. This helps prevent your server from running out of disk space.
You should download and store any important recordings you want to keep permanently before they reach that age. Your installer or administrator can change this retention period on the server side if needed.
Motion sensitivity is controlled in the Silent Guard configuration file on your computer (for example
config.json). A higher sensitivity value means the software reacts to smaller changes in the
image; a lower value means it only reacts to larger movements.
If Silent Guard is triggering too often (for example from small light changes), ask your installer to slightly reduce the sensitivity. If it’s not triggering enough, ask them to increase it.
Silent Guard uploads videos directly from your computer to your designated secure server. Only people who have the correct links, login, or dashboard access can view the recordings.
Be careful when forwarding emails that contain clip links, because anyone with the link can usually open that specific video.
On most systems, Silent Guard runs from a small icon near the Windows clock (system tray). Right-click that icon to start or stop monitoring. If you don’t see the icon, it may be hidden under the “^” arrow.
